Long-time Psychotherapist Dies

Victoria Marlow of Orinda, CA, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for more than three decades, died on [date] of [cause] in [city]. She was survived by her husband, Paul E. Schindler, Jr., her daughters, Marlow Schindler (married to Mandar Gadkari), of Orinda, Cal., and Rae Schindler (married to Kevin Peterson) of San Francisco, CA, as well as her grandson Mihir Gadkari.

She became a devotee of Mātā Amritānandamayī Devī (the Hugging Saint) in 1993, and regularly attended Satsung at Amma’s San Ramon ashram, which she supported generously, as well as financially supporting an Indian family of Amma devotees.

Marlow was born July 18, 1946, to Fred W. Marlow, a prominent Los Angeles area real estate developer, and Lynne Farman Marlow, an avid amateur artist, and was raised in two Los Angeles neighborhoods: Baldwin Hills for the first six years, then the Huntington Palisades neighborhood of West Los Angeles. She graduated from Westlake, a private LA high school, in 1964, and graduated from Pitzer College, Claremont, CA, in 1968, with a B.A. in Philosophy and French, although she spent five quarters at U.C. Berkeley in her junior and senior years. She earned a teaching credential at U.C. Irvine in 1969, and taught general equivalency degree courses to sailors on Treasure Island in San Francisco. She earned her first M.A. in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University in August 1977.

She met Paul E. Schindler, Jr. in San Francisco in December 1977 and married him in January 1980, at sea. A year later, she gave birth to Marlow Lynne Schindler and three years after that to Rae Leigh Schindler.

While being a loving mother and wife, Marlow continued to further her education and add professional credentials. In May 1981, she earned her Real Estate Broker’s license, which she maintained the rest of her life. She earned her second master’s degree in psychology, from JFK University in Orinda, CA in 1984, and became a licensed therapist in 1988, another credential she maintained from then on. She saw clients in an office in Lafayette, California, where she helped thousands of them with mental health issues over the years as a psychotherapist.

After leaving home for college, she lived in Claremont, CA, Mannheim and Karlsruhe Germany, Newport Beach, CA, Balboa Island, CA, Berkeley, CA and, after 1979, in Orinda, CA.
